| Trangere. | This page was fueled by a misunderstanding of the assignment. As it turns out, we weren’t supposed to make a webpage inspired by two artists in the chapter we read, we were supposed to research and talk about two artists. The result is this page that was mainly inspired by jodi and a bit of inspiration from Heath Bunting. | Jodi is what really captured my attention. Jodi, also known as jodi.org, is a collaborative effort by Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans, both of whom were internet artists. Upon visiting jodi.org, one is confronted by a barrage of green text that appears to be completely random. There is no sense or form of the text, it is complete gibberish. Yet there is a pattern – when looking at the source code, the text that appears to be random on the webpage forms pictures – one of which is a picture of a bomb. When clicking on the text, it brings you to a new page with more links that lead to yet more pages. These pages contain pictures and gifs, as well as some text, and none of them make much sense. In some of the pages, the text cannot be read. | The other inspiration for the page came from Heath Bunting, mainly from his page called “Own, Be Owned, Or Remain Invisible” where one has to click on each link in order to read the article. However, Heath Bunting has been discussed to a great extent in this class, and I should not talk in detail about him. | |

| Legere. | Instead, I will be focusing on something that is not one artist like I am supposed to be doing, but something that was created by a group of artists: Cyberfeminism. The term was first used by the VNS Matrix (a group of Australian artists, active from 1991 to 1997) in their manifesto for the 21st century. One of the creators, Julianne Pierce explains the movement as, | “four bored girls decided to have some fun with art and French feminist theory… with homage to Donna Haraway they began to play around with the idea of cyberfeminism… Beginning as if by spontaneous combustion, from a few hot nodes in Europe, America and Australia, cyberfeminism became a viral meme infecting theory, art and the academy.” | ||
